The 12th World Economic Forum Summer Davos Annual Meeting (Annual Meeting of the New Champions) was held in Tianjin, China on 18-20 September 2018. The theme of this year's annual meeting was “Building an Innovative Society in the Fourth Industrial Revolution” (“在第四次工业革命中打造创新型社会”), attracting more than 2,000 political, business, academic and well-known media leaders from more than 100 countries and regions. On September 18, during the 12th World Economic Forum Summer Davos Annual Meeting, Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group, and Zhao Haishan, Deputy Mayor of Tianjin Municipal People's Government and Deputy Mayor, Director of China (Tianjin) Pilot Free Trade Zone Administration conducted the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement signed during the Annual Meeting of Winter Davos in Switzerland, and officially signed the strategic partnership agreement with the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone under the Tianjin Free Trade Zone, AMTD’s corporate insurance brokerage and risk solutions business will be headquartered in Tianjin Free Trade Zone.

Both sides discussed regarding the implementation of comprehensive strategic cooperation. On behalf of the Tianjin Municipal Government, Deputy Mayor Zhao Haishan firstly expressed his warm welcome to AMTD Group to attend the Summer Davos Annual Meeting in Tianjin. He affirmed the outstanding achievements of AMTD Group in the international capital market in recent years, and said both sides have actively exchanged and visited over the past year. After the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement signed during the Winter Davos Annual Meeting this year, both sides continued to implement the agreement deeply. On behalf of the Tianjin Municipal Government, he welcomed and supported AMTD Group to set up headquarters of corporate insurance brokerage and risk solutions business in Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone that under the Tianjin Free Trade Zone, and said that this will further promote the development of Tianjin's financial services industry. Deputy Mayor Zhao Haishan further pointed out that the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone is part of the Tianjin Pilot Free Trade Zone. The major purpose of the Tianjin Pilot Free Trade Zone is to promote the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei. Tianjin is currently increasing the intensity of the Tianjin Pilot Free Trade Zone, and will continuously to declare the “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Free Trade Port” with Beijing and Hebei, which is a platform for opening up the north and northeast of the whole Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. He encouraged AMTD Group to “take Tianjin as its home, dare to try and lead the innovation, bring in the advanced insurance service concept, provide supporting services for other industries, and further support the economy development”.
