GAC Series – 1 of 3 | 3rd AMTD Global Advisory Committee (GAC) was successfully held, jointly creating a smart homeland in Greater Bay Area

 

Third Global Advisory Committee (GAC) Meeting was successfully held at the Hong Kong Asia Society Center, with more than 100 leaders and elites from business, political, and academic sector invited to attend, and shared their views on the opportunity and challenge in the new era, new economy and new finance.

The AMTD Global Advisory Committee was established in 2016. The committee members are authoritative, prestigious experts with outstanding achievements globally. They represent politics, economy, commerce, and finance globally, and leveraging their wealth of knowledge and experience, AMTD aimed to build up a global repository of knowledge, and to provide guidance to the firm’s growth direction and ways to enhance its brand and reputation.

Calvin Choi, the Chairman and President of AMTD, along with its Board Members, attended the meeting. The theme for the 3rd AMTD Group Global Advisory Committee Meeting focused on “Smart City”, “Smart Data”, “Smart Banking” and “Entrepreneurship and Greater Bay Area Opportunities”. We explored the development strategies of the coming year with the elites and leaders from the economic and financial field. This would help us better grasp the development opportunities in the Greater Bay Area and become a “Super Connector” connecting mainland China with the technological and capital markets in Hong Kong, Asia, and the rest of the world.

The meeting started by an opening discussion led by Angie Lau, former lead anchor of Bloomberg Television Asia, Founder, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Fokast.News., and Raymond Yung, CEO of L.R. Capital Group, Co-vice Chairman of AMTD Global Advisory Committee, Board member of Citibank HK and Guangzhou Rural Commercial Bank, covering AMTD’s significant achievements in the past year, they also discussed the coming year’s goals and plans, and how to continue deepen the “AMTD SpiderNet” ecosystem.

 

For this meeting, AMTD has invited Francis Leung, co-Chairman of AMTD Global Advisory Committee, Chairman of the Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies, and Dr. Bill Liu, a member of the Global Advisory Committee, Founder and CEO of Royole Corporation, and the Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum to deliver keynote speeches to discuss and share their views about the development of the new economy, new technology and Hong Kong financial industry’s future with the attending guests. Michelle Li, Head of Research at AMTD, shared the latest trend in the global financial technology market and highlighted a few financial technology innovation case studies on the “Global FinTech Vision and AMTD SpiderNet”.

Dr. Liu, a member of the Global Advisory Committee, founder and CEO of Royole Corporation, and the Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum 2017, shared the latest products and technologies of the company, especially the world's first flexible display screen with thickness of only 0.01 mm, he also shared his journey of creating a new industry of flexible electronics.

Michelle Li, Head of Research at AMTD, shared the latest trend in the global financial technology market and highlighted a few financial technology innovation case studies on the “Global FinTech Vision and AMTD SpiderNet”, She pointed out that AMTD Group has always been striving to build a unique ecosystem to serve and empower the partners and core customers, creating a giant “AMTD SpiderNet” that connects the global financial technology sector with the capital markets.

The meeting comprises of four panel discussions on “Smart Banking”, “Smart City”, “Smart Data”, and “Entrepreneurship and Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area”, with guests brainstorming on ideas around these topics

Focusing on the global hot topics and future development plan of AMTD Group, four panel discussions were organized, covering “Smart Banking”, “Smart City”, “Smart Data” and “Entrepreneurship and Greater Bay Area Opportunities”. The speakers shared their views on new economy and financial innovation, and brainstormed with guests to explore how entrepreneurs and financial talents can use smart data and smart banking to build smart cities leveraging the countless opportunities in the Greater Bay Area, and how to build a harmonic and connected homeland, enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness internationally and establishing a human utopia in the region.

 

Similar to previous years, the AMTD Global Advisory Committee has also set up the AMTD Innovation Hub this year, inviting the founders of the world's leading financial technological and innovative companies to showcase the latest technology to guests and participants, including the financial big data analysis platform Farseer, Singapore's leading online insurance brokers PolicyPal and PAL Network, and exchange ideas and discuss in depth with guests and participants about global technological innovation and development trends.

Towards the end of the meeting, Raymond Yung, CEO of L.R. Capital Group, co-Vice Chairman of AMTD Global Advisory Committee, Board Member of Citibank HK and Guangzhou Rural Commercial Bank, Frederic Lau, President of Capital Markets and Advisory at AMTD Group, and Ros Lam, Deputy Chairman of AMTD Global Advisory Committee and Chief Strategy Officer co-hosted the closing session. They thanked the guests for their enthusiastic participation and insights shared, and summarized their learnings and thoughts from this meeting, which brought a successful conclusion to this Global Advisory Committee Meeting.
